Customer voice reviews: why this format is winning in Algeria
Voice reviews add something that neither text, photos nor even video can reproduce: the voice of a real customer, with their accent, intonation and emotion. In an Algerian market shaped by oral tradition and massive use of WhatsApp voice notes, it is the format closest to traditional word of mouth.
In 30 seconds of recording, a buyer conveys a more credible experience than a written paragraph. For a hesitant shopper, hearing a fellow Algerian describe their experience in Darja, Standard Arabic or spoken French builds a level of trust no star rating can match. It is also an inclusive format: customers who are less comfortable writing (especially seniors and some rural communities) can share their feedback without friction.
The feature works without any app to install: the customer scans the QR code received in store or taps the link sent by SMS, and the audio recorder opens straight in the browser through the MediaRecorder API. Audio is capped at 30 seconds to stay punchy and lightweight, even on 3G/4G. The Cachet Thika server then automatically compresses it to mono MP3 at 96 kbps (~150 to 250 KB), validated by ffprobe to stay robust across the different native browser codecs.
On the display side, voice reviews are rendered in a compact mini-player (play button, stylized waveform, duration) wherever reviews appear: public certification page, website widgets, moderation dashboard. On the moderation side, every recording goes through the same independent review as everything else — the business can neither reject, delete nor hide a voice review. That is the transparency guarantee behind the Cachet Thika badge.

Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum length of a voice review?
Each recording is limited to 30 seconds (with a technical tolerance of up to 32 seconds). This short length keeps listening smooth even on 3G and ensures a high completion rate on widgets and the public page. Beyond that, the server rejects the upload.
Which audio formats are accepted?
Cachet Thika accepts any recording produced by the customer's browser (WebM/Opus on Chrome and Firefox, MP4/AAC on Safari, etc.). The server automatically converts each recording to mono MP3 at 96 kbps using FFmpeg, about 150 to 250 KB per 30-second review. File validation is done by ffprobe, which makes the pipeline robust to codec differences between browsers. Maximum input size: 15 MB.
Do customers need an app to record a voice review?
No. Recording happens directly in the browser through the MediaRecorder API. The customer allows microphone access once, taps “Start”, speaks, then submits. iOS Safari, Android Chrome and Firefox are all supported. No account to create, nothing to download.
Are voice reviews moderated?
Yes. Every voice review goes through the same moderation flow as text, photo and video reviews: customer identity check, content review and approval by the Cachet Thika team. The business concerned can neither delete, hide nor reject a voice review — that is the guarantee behind the Cachet Thika badge as an independent trusted third party.
How is a voice review displayed in my widgets and on my public page?
As a compact mini-player: round play button, stylized waveform and duration. No download menu, no speed control — listening stays smooth and focused. The mini-player works in the rating, vertical, horizontal and product widgets, on the public certification page and in the moderation dashboard.
Which subscription plans include voice reviews?
Voice review collection (PaidFeature AUDIO_REVIEWS) is included in the Standard, Premium and Elite plans, exactly like video reviews. The Basic plan only offers text and photo reviews. See the pricing page for details.
Can a business turn off voice reviews?
Yes. Each business controls whether voice reviews are enabled from its dashboard. When turned off, the “Audio” tab disappears from the public review form. Text, photo and video reviews remain available independently, depending on the plan.
